Surfer Garrett McNamara from US rides world's biggest wave in Portugal

There is one place in Europe which attracts surfers and tourists from all over the world because of its unique natural wonder known as the “Nazaré Canyon" in Portugal. But about it a little later.

Garrett McNamara - the 44 year old pro surfer from Hawaii has broken the world record for the biggest wave ever surfed. It happened on 1 November on the coast of Praia do Norte (Nazaré) in Portugal. The wave was giant - 27,5 meters in height, which is about 90 feet!

The coast of Nazaré  famed as  the “Nazaré Canyon“. It is home to a deep water (5 km deep and 170km in length ) which funnels large swells from the Atlantic Ocean, creating record-breaking waves.
